GRAFFITI WALL

This piece was created outside of class for the freshman art showcase, using spray paint on bricks hung with single strips of duct tape in Ellis Gallery, with the intention that it would fall apart over the course of the display time, crashing to the floor.  The concept was to comment on the relationship between the graffiti artist and his medium. I spray-painted images in the style of fun vibrant 90s graffiti. What would happen if the wall got revenge on the artist? It’s holding its own can of spray paint. The duct tape and heavy bricks were intended to create suspense and discomfort for the viewer, as they anticipate the heavy bricks breaking away from the tape. As the piece self-destroys, the ultimate revenge of the wall against the artist results in its own destruction as well.
