BLACKLIGHT LUMINISCENCE

Pittsburgh artist Randy Gilson created outside art with bright colorful murals on his house to share some of himself with others.  His house is now affectionately known as “Randyland,” and he transformed his neighborhood and created a destination spot for public art.  Almost everything at Randy’s house is garbage he repurposed, and he gives inspirational speeches to guests as he paints.  For my class photo assignment, using Randyland as inspiration, I set up my own “garbage fun-land” in a basement, and standing in one location with my feet grounded I took 24 unique photos.  Seeing these photos in black light reveals different elements, sharing both more and less depending on the photo.  People sometimes mock those who live in a “happy place,” but they fail to realize happy places are all around us.  It’s all what you choose to see…
